Lean Enterprise Acceleration Programmes (LEAP) has for more than 9 years, provided strategic and comprehensive Enterprise & Supplier Development advisory to corporates as well as tailor-made support services to SMEs. These professional support services include: Access to markets, funding, business development support.

Recently, we have introduced training and skills development programmes focusing on unemployed youths and other talented individuals.

Where do we come from?

After extensive research amongst small businesses in South Africa and Africa, working with large databases of suppliers, we spotted a gap – a need for shared resources centre and easy access to new markets for entrepreneurs as well as a need for sourcing the “right” suppliers for corporates.

Who we are

LEAP started in 2011 focusing on developing and delivering comprehensive Enterprise and Supplier Development programmes for our corporate clients as well as business support services to SMEs. LEAP has 34% black woman ownership and its company’s operations are conducted from the head office in Randburg. However, we can provide services nationwide thanks to the large network of over 140 000 suppliers, 180 mentors and consultants. We currently provide business assistance services to over 30 000 business customers of the likes of Telesure Group, the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa, Standard Bank, SAB Foundation.

LEAP has 34% black woman ownership and its operations are conducted from the head office in Randburg.

Our network of over 140 000 suppliers and 180 consultants and mentors, enables us to provide services throughout SA.

Scalable Solutions

We currently provide business assistance services to over 40 000 SMEs telephonically, online or face-to-face through our incubation centres.

The Team

Peter Colombo

Director and CEO

Peter started out as an Industrial Engineer. His studies took him further into business management.  He has over 20 years of experience in leadership roles. His business acumen and entrepreneurial flair has positioned him perfectly in the role of business development and change management specialist. Hard lessons and practical experience have been the grounding that have seen turnaround results like Keedo International, that tripled in size in 4 years.  Peter had international business development experience with IoT.NXT in London and has engaged in high level change management consulting. Peter is blessed with the ability to see market opportunities and grow enterprises accordingly. Peter has been involved in a number of successful acquisitions and sales to the likes of Ethos. Peter is passionate about changing the BEE landscape, in order to deliver more meaningful results in the growth of youths and small business.

Dr Eugene Van Rensburg


With over 20 years of investment and management experience with >15 years Capital Markets, Eugene currently serves Investment Principal and Director of Hlayisani Capital and Hlayisani Fund Managers. Eugene has a successful track record as an entrepreneur in both the small, medium enterprise and large institutional sectors for the past two decades. Previously Eugene held senior leadership positions at IRESS Ltd, Nedbank Capital, Sanlam Capital Markets and ICAP South Africa and the Phoenix Capital group of companies. Eugene is a PhD  (Finance), Executive MBA (Cum Laude), and BCom graduate. He holds the following qualifications: Professional Accountant (SA), Fellow of the institute of the South African Institute of Financial Markets (FIFM), Practicing Stockbroking member of the South African Institute of Stockbrokers (CSb(SA)), South African Financial Services Conduct and Authority qualified Key Individual for advice, discretionary and hedge fund licenses. Eugene serves as a member of the board of governors for the South African Institute of Financial markets and serves as a board member of the South African Institute of Stockbrokers.

Nkateko Khosa


Nkateko is a MBA and BCom graduate with majors in Information Systems, Economics and Accounting. She has diverse corporate experience with BMW South Africa and Barloworld Information Systems. Nkateko served as Associate Director of Deloitte Consulting and currently serves as CEO of Dzana Investments a holding company with interests in property, energy, education, health and ICT sectors.

Owen Van Dongen

Chief of Operations

With over 13 years experience working in the SMME sector, Owen currently serves as Head of Operations at LEAP. Owen has held management positions in multiple small businesses including light manufacturing, communications and was the founder of a small renewable energy business before joining LEAP’s Enterprise & Supplier development division. Having studied a Bcomm and a postgrad degree in Sustainable Development, Owen is passionate about working at the forefront of industry that drives a more sustainable future by addressing economic, social and environmental sustainability. Owen has travelled extensively through South America, Africa and Asia learning about different cultures, global challenges and the innovative solutions being adopted to address these.

Bongani Vilakazi

General Manager ESD

Bongani Vilakazi a BCom graduate with majors in Business Finance and Marketing. He has more than 12 years working experience in the financial and services sectors with proven knowledge in financial planning, analysis, accounting and BBBEE Codes of Good Practice.   Bongani joined LEAP in 2015 to further enhance his skills in analysing and implementing BEE transactions and has been able to create business strategies that are customised for small growing enterprises and provide a sustainable return for larger corporate ESD contributors. Bongani has a passion for responsible investment in community development, small business growth which will drive job creation and reduce poverty.


Dr Reuel Khoza


Distinguished thought leader, businessman, President of the IoDSA, Africanist, public speaker and change agent at the forefront of transformation in the South African political economy, Dr Reuel Khoza has been hailed as a role model in respect of the duties and responsibilities that a citizen can and should take on in the public and national interest. Dr Khoza boasts almost 40 years of executive management experience. He currently serves as Chairman of Dzana Investments (Pty) Ltd and Globeleq. Formerly Dr Khoza served as Chairman of Nedbank Group Limited, Eskom Holdings, and GlaxoSmithKline South Africa, he also served as Director of the JSE Limited, IBM South Africa, Liberty Life Group, Standard Bank Group, Nampak Limited and Old Mutual plc. He has been involved in the formulation of the King Codes on Corporate Governance in King II, King III and King IV, serving as Mervyn King’s deputy in the last two instances. Reuel Khoza’s qualifications include a BA Hons in Psychology (University of Limpopo previously University of the North), and MA in Marketing (University of Lancaster, UK), EngD in Business Leadership, Warwick University UK, an LLD honoris causa (Rhodes University), a D Econ honoris causa (University of Free State) and is a Chartered Director (CD SA). He is Emeritus Professor Extraordinaire of the University of Stellenbosch Business School and current Visiting Professor at Rhodes Business School, the University of Free State Business School; and Wits Business School, as well as Chancellor of the University of Limpopo. Dr Khoza is author of Attuned Leadership, Let Africa LeadThe African in my Dream and The Power of Governance (with Mohamed Adam), and an avocado pear farmer with a deep love for writing and producing music.

Michael Jordaan

Investment Committee Chairperson

Michael Jordaan, venture capitalist and former CEO of First National Bank (FNB) one of SA’s largest banks with a customer base of nearly nine million, stepping down in August 2013 to pursue his passion for entrepreneurship. With more than 20 years’ experience in the financial services sector and nearly a decade at the helm of the Bank (being appointed at age 36), Michael oversaw the move away from traditional banking toward rewarding ecosystem-centric solutions for customers, and led FNB to be named the “World’s Most Innovative Bank” in the 2012 BAI-Finacle Global Banking Innovation Awards, in Washington DC, with more than 7,000 implemented innovations during his tenure. Michael’s private investment company, Montegray Capital lends a strategic-hand to various businesses, including data network RAIN and start-up Bank Zero. He is also a non-Executive Director on the JSE Limited. Michael actively invests as a partner in AngelHub Ventures, a South African based Venture Capital Fund. Michael is well known within the South African context as being on the forefront of leadership, innovation and technology, receiving several awards including the regional Excel Award, the Top Five list of SA Newsmakers of the Year and CNBC’s All Africa Business Leader of the Year for Southern Africa award.
