SROI is a form of stakeholder-driven evaluation blended with cost-benefit analysis tailored to social purposes. It tells the story of how change is being created and places a monetary value on that change and compares it with the costs of inputs required to achieve it. SROI is indispensable. It is essential that corporations and organisations seeking to create social change in South Africa become more sophisticated in assessing performance against social impact. It is no longer sufficient to put accountability in terms of social impact into the “too-difficult-to-measure” category.
SROI has emerged, internationally, as a viable approach to measuring the extent to which social impacts are being achieved through our various ED and SD programmes. At an organisational level, the benefits that accrue to organisations which conduct or commission an SROI analysis are considerable.
SROI analyses are generally conducted by practitioners who have been accredited by the international SROI Network. LEAP has trained SROI practitioners in-house as well as a close partnership with IQ Capital’s own SROI experts. Considerable care is taken to ensure the close engagement of all stakeholders in the conduct of an SROI analysis, and to ensure the quality and integrity of the resultant reports.
